This podcast is about challenging both you and me to become the smartest marketers in the room.
As marketers, we're facing big questions and challenges from our leadership teams and boards, and business owners and founders are constantly thinking about how we can improve our marketing and grow our businesses while making payroll.
This pressure can lead to poor execution of our marketing, confusion from within our teams about what the direction is, and poor results in our sales departments.
As an entrepreneur currently in the early stages of growing a digital agency, I also face many of these challenges.
So my main goal is to explore and share ways we can all move away from random acts of marketing and start helping you build a long-term marketing strategy.

How’s it going? My name is Jordan from Done By Nine, and welcome to the Marketing Mindset podcast, where this podcast is all about challenging you and me to become the smartest marketers in the room. And as marketers, I feel that we are facing a lot of different questions, a lot of different challenges from leadership teams, from boards, from investors. And as business owners and founders, we’re constantly having to think about how we can improve our marketing and grow our business, all trying to keep our business moving in the background, and trying to focus on all those other things to keep the business moving, like payroll and all those day-to-day things.
And this pressure can really lead to poor execution from our marketing. We see a lot of confusion within marketing teams about what the direction is, and where people are heading, and where the business is heading. And that just results in poor sales results as well at the end of the day. And as an entrepreneur, I’m currently, obviously, in the early stages of growing a digital agency, Done By Nine. So I too am facing a lot of these different challenges, and asking myself a lot of these different questions as well. So the main goal of this podcast is to explore and also share some of the ways that I’ve been able to move away from random acts of marketing, and really start to get us thinking about how we can start helping you build more of a long-term marketing strategy as well.
So just a bit about me. My name is Jordan, and I run a digital agency called Done By Nine, based in Taranaki in New Zealand. Now, I’ve been in digital and in media digital marketing for well over 20 years now. In 2020 was when I kind of took the plunge and started working as a freelancer, and at the same time kicked off a digital agency called Done By Nine. And it’s kind of, all the rest is history from there. We set out and we build marketing strategies at Done By Nine that really do put brands in front of the right customers, on the right channels, at the right time.
What we do is we blend business knowledge with our digital know-how to really move brands across New Zealand and Australia from those random acts of marketing that I’m talking about to more a strategy that really does work in the long run. We’re really fortunate, back in those early days as well, that we got really good support, some early support, from some amazing businesses, ambitious businesses that trusted us, and still trust us to this day, and we work with them one-on-one to actually build and maintain their digital strategies.
And since 2020 as well, we’ve also been able to take the opportunity to speak and host webinars and run workshops, and support well over 200 businesses across New Zealand and Australia through things like the capability support and all those other speaking engagements, and of course our one-on-one clients as well. And we’ve also been able to work directly with companies, and literally building and transforming and maintaining their digital strategy, to help them find and serve their customers and their clients better.
And I’m really proud to see all the businesses that we work with that really do smash their revenue and sales targets, and at the same time think about how they can increase their productivity and their customer retention. And that’s a lot of what I want to explore in this podcast, about how we can do better at all of those things: how we can still smash our sales revenues, but know that we’re not having to work so hard in the business, that we can still actually enjoy and have a life at the end of the day as well.
And over that time it’s helped us shape Done By Nine services. So when we kicked off, obviously we were trying to figure out who our ideal client was, what our ideal services were, what were their pain points. And over that time it’s really built up over the journey, which I’d love to share with you across this podcast. And we started from purely planning digital marketing and social media campaigns to now actually thinking about how we can really transform businesses with full digital strategies. So kicking off with the digital strategy, and then using our team to actually implement and grow that business.
And over that time as well, we’ve been able to build some awesome partnerships with the likes of Google, Google Ads, HubSpot, monday.com, Mailchimp, all of those pieces of software, which can all be instrumental in making sure that our businesses and our marketing strategies are humming and they’re actually working. So we’ll share some ideas of how we can use all of those tools, so that it just doesn’t add another thing to your tech stack, but it’s actually going to help you improve and grow that marketing strategy as well.
And what’s more exciting for me is that it’s actually allowed me to work with and support and create an epic marketing team here as well. And there’s some amazing ideas. I get challenged all the time, and we’re constantly thinking about how we can evolve, do things better within our own business, and how we can do things better for the clients that we work with. So there’s a lot of inspiration that I’m really looking forward to sharing as part of this podcast as well.
And this podcast really is that next stage of our journey at Done By Nine. Having worked in radio broadcasting, this is going back a fair bit now. So I’m really getting back in front of the mic, and being able to share some of the things that I’ve learned over the past three years building Done By Nine, but also the things that we’re constantly learning and evolving and changing with the businesses that we work with, is all what we want to share within this podcast with you. So really looking forward to kicking off the series, and I look forward to seeing you on the first episode.
