Careers

We’re not hiring today. We’d still like to know who you are.

There is no open role on this page and we will not invent one to collect CVs. The people who end up working here rarely arrive through an advert, so this is what the work is, what we look for, and how to reach us.

AI wrote us a job advert in 11 seconds. We’re not running it.

Read in your most corporate, generic and AI-generated voice as possible.

  • The ability to work autonomously and as part of a collaborative team
  • A hunger to learn and grow
  • Experience across digital channels would be advantageous

Sound like you? Email your CV and cover letter to lazymarketer@donebynine.com.

If you do write to that address on the strength of what you have just read, you are almost certainly not the person the rest of this page is describing.

Ok, that’s enough of that. Writing the advert took 11 seconds and that was the easy part. The strategy, the judgment, the client conversation, the ability to look at a campaign that isn’t working and know exactly why: that is the job, and no advert has ever described it well.

First, a bit about us

Done By Nine is a marketing agency based in New Plymouth. We work with more than 60 businesses across New Zealand and Australia, running their strategy, their paid media and their content as an extension of their team.

We are not a big agency. We are a sharp one. And we are growing in a direction most agencies are still nervous to talk about: using AI as a genuine business tool rather than a content shortcut. Anyone who joins us has to get that distinction, because it is the difference between the two halves of this page.

What we look for, whenever we are looking

Four things have decided every hire we have made, and not one of them is a qualification.

  • You see the story in the numbers

A set of campaign results should tell you what to do next, and you should be able to say that out loud to the person paying for it.

  • You have used AI for real work

Not to write your CV. Research, ideation, briefing, reporting. We use it every day because it is the smarter way to work when you know how, and it shows within about five minutes of talking.

  • You leave people clearer

You can sit with a business owner who is stressed about their marketing, and they walk away knowing what happens next. On the days that matters, it is the whole job.

  • You move without being told

We are small. Nobody here is waiting to be handed work, and nobody is checking afterwards that you did it.

What you would be walking into

A team on Devon Street in New Plymouth, and remotely across New Zealand. Clients who value the relationship rather than the invoice. A business that is actively building something different, and that wants the people around it to grow with it.

Roles here have been full-time, part-time, contract and fully remote, because we shape them around the person rather than the other way round. That is far easier to do when there is no seat to fill and no start date to hit, which is exactly the position we are in.

How to get on our radar

Please don’t send a generic CV. Or do, we genuinely cannot stop you. But if you want our attention, tell us something real, written or as a quick video: what you have done, how you think, and why Done By Nine makes sense for where you are heading.

It reaches Jordan and nobody else. There is no applicant tracking system here and no automated reply, so if it lands you will hear from a person, and it will be the start of a conversation rather than a process.

Tell us something real.

No role open, no form to fill in, and no automated reply. Write to Jordan with what you have done and how you think, and if it is interesting we will find a reason to talk.
